Hi

I just started using PNS probio and Yellow Snow. I was hoping to get feedback from other people who have used it. Also, any tips/suggestions you may have would be great.

Hello, I Started using both about 6 months ago (give or take) I would alternate both each day and measure Nitrates and phosphates. If either is to low then stop the ProBio for a few days and re-test again.

The other thing I would say is (this is optional lol) once you've been dosing for a while, depending your system parameters, size organisms etc, you could reduce your filtration. I found that my system was thriving just dosing the two daily and just running on an ATS. The skimmer was "on" but didn't really produce much, so I removed it.

I thought about using a dosing pump for both, but the yellow snow needs to be chilled. Both products must be sealed very tightly, so the dosing container needs to be top quality to avoid the products coming into contact with the air.

The last piece of advice is the product needs to be dosed consistently to see/maintain long term results.

Hope this helps!

So you are dosing as directed on the bottle? I too want to go skimmerless. What kind of bioload do you have? Thanks for your reply!

Yes, I'm dosing as per the bottle instructions. Currently my system is 65ish gallons total (48 tank, 16 sump) there's a handful of LPS and about 5 small fish and some inverts. So far the bio load is very small but will increase over time. However, my experience is based of when the same inhabitants were all in a 20 gallon with similar filtration. I definitely didn't go skimmer less until a few months after dosing both products regularly, and the ATS was very established and had a consistent amount of algae growing each week.

I see. And, your dosing of pro bio is dependent on what your nitrate and phosphate levels are?

In the beginning yes, but then I just started dosing regularly with occasional testing of nitrate and phosphates. Only because I wasn't adding or removing any animals from the system, just trusted the bio load and filtration was steady.
With my currently new setup, I test every time I keep adding a significant amount of animals. But the nice thing about the products, is your 'technically' cannot overdose so I don't really worry too much about them changing my readings.

Thank you for the replies. Its comforting to see someone using it for over 6 months and have a tank that is thriving. I hope to have the same experience. I have a gorgonian and seahorse tank that im trying this on which is skimmerless. Also dosing phyto with it. I have marine pure spheres with live rock for filtration. My only other export will be 25% weekly water changes. Im hoping this works. I will be testing alot to see if any problems arise. any feedback is appreciated!

i have not been as consistent as MillennialReefer, but i did see positive results from dosing both. I actually only dosed one until it was done, before i moved to the other. have not seen any water param changes with the YeloSno, but as mentioned that with the ProBio i did have to check my No3/Po4 as this would bring it down. the reason it took so long for me to finish both bottles is i would alternate dosings/feedings with it with red sea AB+ just to offer different things to my tank.

Just ordered both products since there was a cyber Monday deal. I definitely skipped the past few days since I ran out of the ProBio over the holidays, however I subscribed to the products from AlgaeBarn just to maintain the consistency. I know that skipping a few days wont make a significant impact. Since I'm not using the products to solve anything, its more to maintain a steady colony of these bacteria in the system. I think in your case @Ias, your seahorse system the current agenda works great using the 2 products! How is the system looking so far since using them?

The seahorses will be done with quarantine and go into the tank this week. The blueberry gorgonians are being fed rotifer/yellow sno mix twice daily and live phyto everyday. I dose pro bio every other day on that tank. There is not one speck of detritus anywhere in that display. We will see how it handles the seahorse introduction.

I’ve been using both in my BioCube for about 6 months now. My corals grow like crazy so I’m happy. I do still occasionally have small cyano patches but I feed too heavy. I started them, added a fuge when I was battling GHA and haven’t had any since. Happy customer
