So I recently started using biopellet s. I'm only using 50% recommended dose. My salifert test reads 0.0 and Hannah says .007. Is phosphates that low an issue?

Typical ocean water is .005 ppm and the recommended reef tank level is <.03. Personally, I think you can have phophates too low. I read in a tank thread of just the most fabulous tank that he tries to keep phosphates at .04 and thought that it was important.

As long as ur feeding ur coral ull be ok. If not then that water is to clean and the corals will lose color and then die.
Slightly dirty water is good for corals in a reef aquarium it allows the to have food to eat and color up nicely.
Personally I keep my phos about .05 or less and nitrates at 10ppms at zero my corals will pale out and look bad.
To high they will go brown and die

Good luck hope that helped a little

How do u know ur at .007 to get that high of a read you would have to be using lab grade equipment. Or ur a baller. I looked at a personal lab grade test for phos and nit and each was $800.

Most of the common phos checkers only go to the hundredth (0.00)

I have no color on the salifert so 0. And in the Hannah checker I score 2 which you then do an equation that puts me at .007

What in earth are you taking about? My Hannah checker just reads something like 0.02 or 0.00 which is the measured phosphate level. What kind of Hannah checker are you using?

The equation is used on the alkalinity tester, not phosphates

He is using the HI 736 Checker Phosphorus Ultra Low Range Tester, which the measurement unit is ppb.
As his result is 2ppb, that is around 0.0061ppm after the maths.

Yep! That's the one. Thank you for clearing that up for me :-)
