Guys,

I don’t know what’s going on here

I’ve gone from gfo on a timer to control po4 but got tired of changing the media so went down the LC dosing route

About a month ago I didn’t need it and controlled po4 with food to keep it at .11

The last few days it’s rising .8 a day with even reducing the food

Tanks 6 months since a reset but don’t believe that rock and sand was absorbing it keeping it stable

Now I’m going to have to go back to dosing LC or stop feeding which I won’t do

Any ideas what’s going on?

Maybe increasing phyto ?
Currently 50ml of microforna and 50ml coral which I know isn’t much

I’ll just talk to myself then haha

Gonna try 3G of mysis a few days see if I can find the new amount to maintain it

Don’t want to dose again and I don’t have a spare head

I’ll figure it out , alone! Ha

6 month tank is unstable. What is phosphate level currently? Do you feed pellet food? Do you dose coral supplements? What is your export process?

Ha, you might be alone here because you've not given enough details for others to really help you...

Give us a little more info on the tank...

how many gallons / do you run a refugium / how was it "reset" / is it actually rising at .8 a day (or maybe .08?) / how are you measuring / when are you measuring / what kind of livestock / what are you feeding

Those are all questions that popped into my head as helpful information when trying to determine why your Phosphate is rising. :)

8 years old so rock sand fully saturated
When you say unstable what are you referring to?
No pellets or coral food just mysis, nori and phyto

Have skimmer , filter floss , ozone, carbon and caluerpa growing

Changed nothing in about a month

Ok so
400 litre, fuge yes
Yes .08 pd
The reset was all rock out and rescaped an hour later
The crud was unreal
Hanna lr, ulr and Salifert if I need a real confermation
I stopped frequently testing a month ago ( just once a week , was always .11 with 10g of mysis etc)
16 x 3” fish , tons of coral

I’m at a loss why the sudden change to hense the post

Can we see a picture of the tank.

Some tanks run high and are good with it.

Do you notice any problems with your coral?

Yeah I’m not worried and although I was a bit of a number chaser I’ve learned to let the corals tell me they don’t like it

I rose to .4ppm from .1 in 6 months on a 7 year old system.

It’s been another 6 months now at .4ppm and holding, nobody seems to be bothered by that level.

Maybe that’s just normal in older systems.

I can lower it with LC, but that’s just temp and I’m not doing that weekly, or spending $100’s on GFO.

I’m waiting to see if anything actually happens.

Btw….very nice tank….be proud!

No I see loads of tanks higher than mine doing great
It’s no worry unless it goes much higher then it will need controlling somehow
Not sure if there’s a lesser po4 food than mysis and doubt nori is much , then the phyto should be reducing that although what I put in is negligible

Thanks , I’m happy with it although I keep searching for spots to plant another acro haha

A lot goes on in there so must be on the right track

Snails spawn
Urchin spawns
Clowns lay eggs
Mushrooms split
Ktc pops of buds
Green monti grown a cm a week currently
Anemones split

Suggests to me that I’m supplying all needs

Another couple of months and all those acros will be branching out everywhere , well that’s what I hope

My understanding is that if everything else is stable then numbers are just numbers and one parameter that’s below / above nsw is acceptable
Could be wrong ( boss! Please chime in)

Thanks Johnny appreciate it
LOL! I don't think I've heard that name (from anyone other than my wife) in DECADES! And she says Johnny as Yohnny. Our old boss (we met at work almost 40 years ago) was Hispanic and didn't pronounce the J as we did. So that name stuck with her! It's kind of a nickname that she uses in place of Pumpkin. Or Pookie. My best friend and I used to make fun of the word Pookie in High School. About a decade later I caught him using that word with his wife. He had NO recollection of our making fun of it, but he obviously liked it. That being said, if my wife called me Pookie there would be some vomiting involved. No....A lot of vomiting involved!
