I have been researching pods to increase what little I’m trying to establish including the reed Poseidon system but for now. I added a bottle of a local place from the lfs. I added them to various areas in the sand bed through a pvc pipe. My sump is limited for refugium and chaeto. I have looked up the diy pod hotels with gutter guard and rubble. My tank is just over two months. I have 2 mesh bags of rubble. One is easily accessible. The other is sandwiched between the egg crate skimmer stand. When I added the pods I took the skimmer offline and sponge mechanical filter for 24 hours. And also had all the pumps off for 30 minutes. So know the questions. Won’t just adding the bag to the display at night do the same thing as the gutter guard set up? And since I have two bags how often should I rotate the bags from sump to display. Also how long should I wait for that bottle to colonize the rubble in the sump to think about dropping it in the display

I've never seen any evidence of pod hotels being negative or positive. Copepods will populate just about anywhere they can find food, without predation.

I thinks it’s about making them get into the display.

Well for me. That’s what I’m trying to achieve

No experience with pod hotels, but corse foam always seems to be where i find the most amphipods. No idea if it actually increases their population or if just gives an easy spot to look for them though so same could probably be said of hotels.

I think if you add them at night and turn off pumps then when the pumps do go back on remove filter socks etc. for a day or so you should be fine. Also if you added them to the sump they will eventually end up in your display through the return pump

I went ahead and took the easy accessible mesh bag and sat it on the rocks in the display. I figure may do something may not won’t ever know prolly but wouldn’t hurt. I don’t see after getting chopped in the skimmer then blocked by a sponge. I do have a 2” gap in the sponge. Then chopped back up and sent flying up to the tank. How do they really make it up there

From what I understand as long as they can get to your return they will make it to your display. The older ones will breed down there and the babies/ smaller ones will make it through the return. Eventually you will have some older ones hide in the display rock and breed. The refugium/sump just r keeps them safe from getting eaten and lets them do their thing.
