Looking into getting a mandarin goby. My tanks been up for about 5-6 months. Just starting to see pod life on 1 rock. Running a 90 gallon w/ a 30 gallon sump. Dont want to get him if i dont have enough pods established.

While im no expert on Mandarin gobys im gonna go out on a limb here and say if your just starting to see pods then keep waiting. Pods being a major food source for these guys means they will eat a lot of them and if you only just started seeing them then likely the population is still small and just starting and using some educated reasoning this means he will likely run out of food quickly.

Yes, you need to wait longer. Pods will multiply fast but you want every rock covered and then some. You also want some sort of refugium when a breeding population can be established and continually feed the display with more as the mandarin consumes them. I have had good luck with seeding tanks from others and then adding pod packs from stores to boost the diversity.

I always wonder if when you use a magnet glass cleaner on your tank and see the pods on the tank glass are you killing them when you roll them over with the magnet? I have tons always on my glass and hate to think I am killing so many.
