Just noticed my mandarin is getting thin. I checked my sump and chaeto and haven't been able to spot any pods. I know that Copepods are hard to see but I'm not seeing any amphipods either. I see the mandarin picking at the rocks like it's eating so I'm sure there are some but I'm wondering why the sudden decline in pods. I've had the mandarin about 4 years and it's always been fat until now.

Only thing that comes to mind is Bayer dip. I've been using it a lot lately but everything else in the tank is great. Corals and fish are good and there is lots of other life in the tank like worms, snails and asterinas.

Any ideas?

How long has it been since you've reseeded? Doubt you've introduced anything non QT into the tank have you?

The only reason I could think of for the sudden decline would be inbreeding of the pods. I know with the salamanders I research, often genetics play a larger roll in smaller more isolated populations than other factors we observe. Reseeding should do the trick.

I've never reseeded. My tank is nearly 6 years old. Always had a ton of pods until now.

Try reseeding it and add like 1000 pods and see if they disappear or die

Getyourpods.com still has a sale going on pods. I've bought from them before. Dont know how much is actual copepods but 7 months later I still be them everywhere.

I would do a water change and re stock Gabe. You can feed your Mandarin frozen in the mean time.

I got some pods off eBay; the vedor sells a product of copepods only. 3000 for about $32.
