I have a 1 year old 55g with about 60 pounds of LV no sump. I would like to have a mandarin but im not sure i have enough pods.

Can i add live pods in the tank and hope they will reproduce ?

You can purchase live copepods and phytoplankton. Best practice is to get a long tube that can reach into the sand bed. Add the live food in through the tube in various sand beds do this after lights off but beware not to startle too many fish as they may jump. In my experience you would find it hard pressed to have a self sustainable system forever. You will have to do this once in a while to refresh. In a sump it might be easier to keep populating.

I just added love pods to my tank on Monday. There's so many now, I'll be committing a massacre by cleaning my glass lol
This is my first experience with pods. I'll be purchasing live phyto soon to help sustain them and see how things go. I have a little HOB refugium though as well.

I have a mandarin and he is big and I just buy pods every couple of months and I have a hob refugium and I have a bunch of pods in there and when I buy pods I just turn all pumps off and flow and I just dump them straight into the tank out of the bag and I go onto algaebarn site and I buy 22000 pods every couple of months for my mandarin and he us doing good and I've had him for over a year
