Did a 100% water change two weeks ago. Tank was not really maintained for many months after massive crash. Why so many PODS?

pods thrive in dirty water
Not sure how the water can be that dirty I just did 100% water change two weeks ago. Any other thoughts on why such an explosion? 340gallon tank never seen so many.

because there is nothing to eat them. And unless you removed all detritus from rocks and sand and all the algae, a water change wouldn’t remove their food source.
