Probably just picking stuff off it.
Ha .No .that what I thought at first .put him back in and caught him doing it again .He had scrapped one side completely off .it just healed this past week .Took 2 weeks for it to heal. He ate it.

I had one in my 140 gallon one night I caught him pulling the polyps out of a large toadstool leather coral so I moved him over to my 10 gallon with mushroom and Xenia corals and he hasn’t bothered anything at all since I moved him over there.

I have 2 very large ones. Never caught them picking at corals. The fish are always swating at them. They are scary looking with the big claws grabbing at the fish. I feed them a piece of nori every day so they don’t get hungry and eat corals or fish.

Feed them and they won’t eat things you don’t want them to. What a concept! [emoji16]

Yeah that didn't work with mine. He was Target fed frozen meat etc .he's just a jerk. :(

I have 5-7 of them in my 45 (lots of rock). They keep to themselves. Fun to watch. Never had any issues. Salty light foot is fun to watch to, looks scary but man can he cover some ground.

I did add a a80 to the center of my a700. A80 runs full spectrum to produce algae in the center rock work in my tank. Keeps everyone busy cleaning up. Tangs appreciate the algae too.

Only issue I've had with emerald crabs is them picking zoas off of their rock. They don't eat them, but the act of picking them off and then sending them floating around the tank is super infuriating.
Yh i had the same problem but they never harmed anything in my tank
