This is how I did mine my roller mat max water flow is 1250gpm so that’s what flow’s through this 150 watt and 120 watt. I will have 500 flowing through one and 750 flowing through the other.

I've always used one but always worried about its effect on my waterborne microfauna population. Yes, it kills pathogens, free-floating algae, and parasites, but UV kills everything alive (and has no effect on anything nonorganic, so don't worry about food), basically it melts the cell wall and spills the "organs" of the cell, nothing is really safe from its effect and large animals are only slightly damaged, small animals are killed and unicellular life is vaporized. I'd say it's worth it, viruses, bacteria, and algae cells are all unicellular, but pods are also small enough to be killed too. I always run mine before the refugium, the pods will still get food and it won't have as much effect on your population.

My other side note with uv from my own personal experience is that all water going through the uv is far superior to it only doing part of the water. For instance being attached to return to display from sump verses it's own pump feed and returned to sump
It still doesn't do "all the water" vs "part of the water".

Flow through tbe Sump only goes in one direction.

Your UV water coming into the return section cant swim upstream like a breeding salmon, back across your refugium, past your skimmer, under your filter socks and back into the UV intake.

Even if it did (it cant) its not a question of "all water" vs "some water", its an issue of double treatment.

I think maybe what you are saying is "all the water from the return". (Which still isn't "all the water" in your tank).

...but then you either have way too much flow through the UV to be effective or your returns are running super slow.

What matters is the gph processed period combined w making sure you aren't double treating water recirculating in your sump.

Yup that's my point it's obviously never going to treat all water as not all water comes through the overflow. But it's far more effective to have it tied into the return so it isn't constantly retreating water in the sump.

As far as my returns I always use two partly fail safe and partly so I can dial in what flow I need better. My sumps flow always is altered to what my equipment requires and functions best at. Have also never been a fan of moving water quickly through sump

What Brand, and where did you source them from. I'm needing 2 150 watt units for My 850 system

Rick, how big is your tank? That setup made me tear up a little.

Looking at your photos gives a headache because I have a 120W that I am not sure how to mount yet. I may have to put it in my garage. I had no idea how big it was until I saw the package...

I'm researching for uv but gd dude nicely setup room!! Makes me feel good about when my kids grow up, won't downsize the house will just convert some rooms!! Really nice man! Appreciate all the votes as I've been debating on using one with my new tank after losing a battle with my last 13 year old tank to Dinos.
