POLL: Foxface VS Rabbitfish! Which one do you prefer?

I just picked up one from my LFS. He's a little bitty guy! I'm hoping he does well and grows to be a great fish for the new reef!

They are amazing . Eats as much as a teenager

be careful as I’m sure you’re aware , they have venomous spines and hurt like no tomorrow if you get stung

You never want to bet a rabbit… I did that with my Mag and he got stuck in the net. Needless to say I ended up with a broken net and a stressed rabbit (He was happy when he went into the 4’ again though). The good thing is you can hold them by the sides so a thick pair of gloves helped me with that.
In my 4’ tank’s build thread I have a lot about what occurred during changing my sand to a much finer (Sugar Fine) sand.

i'll keep this in mind if the time ever comes to bag a rabbitfish.

i'm very interested to read about your experience with sugar fine sand! all of the reefkeepers i've met prefer coarse sand due to cloudy sugar fine water.

My one spot is my king fish. He is the reason I added a second tank (130 gallon) for fowlr. He outgrew the 100 and was somewhat of a bully when it came to feeding time, but now that he has real competition (h tusk, puffer, coral beauty, m wrasse, trigger) he has met his match. I do supplement his feeding with algae pellets although he will eat the meat I feed the others, but clearly no longer the aggressor. PLUS, I love it when he goes full camo

I voted foxface because my one spot is the model citizen. He literally taught my tangs (!), flame angel, damsels, and clowns to eat nori. He drew my hippo out of hiding. Eats from my hand. Schools with the others, outgoing but never aggressive, grazes like crazy, never bothered a coral or clam that I'm aware of, hardy as can be. But I confess, I never had a rabbitfish. It was a tough choice between the two but I decided my 125g just wasn't big enough for a rabbitfish. All in all, I think I made a good choice. Then again, maybe I couldn't have gone wrong either way.

I have 2 Foxface a One Spot and a Bicolor I love them both. Ive never had a Rabbit fish so I can't really give an opinion on them.

It’s also still used in the common name of Siganus vulpinus and im pretty sure the common name last time I checked was Foxface Lo so it’s still in use, just not for the same thing.

"Dude, my Foxface is a Rabbitfish, lol."

Wikipedia says there are 29 species of rabbitfish.
(Lo, in truth I never knew they had been reexamined and reclassified as a group.) I never did like Linnaeus anyway.

Same haha, well another rabbit Atleast as if I went for another species of Siganiidae it would definitely be Siganus dioliatus, I wish I had a photo of this species.

I liked the foxface.

I find Magnificus to remain smaller and stay in a 4’ tank for essentially it’s whole life.
In the past when working at the LFS, I had a 7” Magnificus come in and hit its max size of I believe 8.5 inches (I could be wrong). And it didn’t seem to stress about being in the 4’ tank.

I just started this hobby a few months ago, and every tank I saw on YouTube when I was watching videos for research had a one spot , I thought they were cool looking with the bright yellow and there little snout mouth. So I picked up one from my lfs when my tank was up and running. He was ok for the first 2 days . Then I noticed he wouldn’t eat nori sheets or pellets or flake but he would eat frozen, I guess that wasn’t enough for him so he started decimating my Duncan so he had to go. Quite unfortunate , I was hoping to have one in my reef tank.

Unimaculatus and Vulpinus seem to be more likely to eat coral than Magnificus and Uspi are. I can’t really say much on Siganus niger as I’ve never come across one in person to say what they’re like with coral.

My one spot would not touch meat. Definitely a herbivore except for my fireworks coral.
