POLL: HOLDING CORAL FOR SALE

Curious about the thoughts of those in the reefing community about how long you think a seller should hold a coral once they offered it for sale and quoted a price. We all know corals can grow and polyps can multiply.
To clarify - someone tells you they want to purchase the coral and will pickup in a few days. You have some contact from them on and off - you actually ask when they're coming saying they'll be there in a few days or the weekend and 3 weeks later, you still have it!

I am actually referring to a coral that someone tells you they want to purchase and will pick up in a few days. On and off contact with them and three weeks later, you still have it! And no, it hasn't been paid for.

Yes we all know corals can die within this time period.
Weird poll for me as too many variables..

I should have clarified a bit more and have updated what I was trying to ask..I've tried to do so.

If they say they're coming and don't and leave me hanging for 3 weeks unless they have a family emergency or something similar I'm refunding their payment and relisting. If they haven't paid I'm telling them not to worry I'm no longer interested in selling to them. Assuming this is the case it's inconsiderate and I prefer not to deal with anyone who is like that. You say your coming you come period.

If you commit to buying it in my opinion you should be able to take delivery within a week.

If you commit to selling then your offering the best of you ability to provide the best, you should not offer for sale if you can not maintain yourself

When I commit/Post a coral for sale, I am committing to sell it right now. Not in 3 months. If you can't take delivery of a product in a timely manner ( I believe one week is sufficient) then why are you purchasing it?

1 week would be about all I expect. If I had something come up I would ask for another week but not expect that they would absolutely say yes. This questions becomes a bit more interesting if you have their cash in hand but at some point you have to draw the line.

I require the person to pay for the coral if they expect me to hold it over a few days. This way I don’t lose out on a sale waiting for someone that never pays, etc.

Okay. In that case a week for me. I find that no shows happen at least 50% of the time, if not more. A deposit on the coral helps alleviate that. I make terms that if the coral is not picked up by a certain date, I keep the deposit and go on to the next person.

Just advise the person that was going to purchase it that u waited longer then necessary and have now moved onto another buyer.

I'd hold it till they come pick it up if they've paid for it and if I have a tank crash and it dies, it's on them since at that point I'm only babysitting it, it's their coral. I wouldn't hold it more than a couple days if they haven't paid.
