To name just one, I'd have to say Hunter Hammond. Hunter's love and vast knowledge of wrasses really fueled my obsession early on. A lot of the initial research I did led me to him. Several years back, my local reef club flew him in to give a general lecture on wrasses and at that point I was hooked. Wrasses forever! I didn't tag him in this post because I don't want him to get a big(ger) ego

those already mentioned are certainly some of the most influential people in aquaria. I recently discovered Jorge Machado de Sousa of coral maternity. he is a legend in Portugal and his systems are incredible. I am just starting to learn some of his concepts

I would like to say this. There have been some great names in the hobby and still are. I honestly have more respect for those who continue to share their knowledge and info with current and new hobbyists. I know I run a forum, lol, but I really appreciate those that will come here and share information. We are seeing new names rise to the top and we should really support the people who continue to help educate and not just at reef shows. The audience is HERE!

Mark levenson and Mike Paletta are both by far my reefing heros. Above them is Reef2Reef. Without this forum I dont know where i would be. I have learned so much from everyone and continue to do so. This community is fantastic.

Im also going to put Gary Parr and Christine Williams down from the Reefthreads Podcast. I have listened to ever episode, learned a lot, and look forward to every one that comes out. When they skip a week i go into withdrawal, lol.

William Burnett (bean animal overflows) got me thinking about actually engineering our reef tanks to do what we envision, rather than just accepting what was commercially available.

Delbeek and Sprung taught me to learn more about the animals I desired and where they would be happiest (not how the LFS displayed them).

Randy Farley-Holmes is my "go to" guy for questions...he actually answers which is amazing in and of itself. His knowledge and experience match his willingness to help.

Mark Levinson taught me that just because it doesn't exist, doesn't mean it shouldn't. He also taught me that I can create what I need.

But most importantly, LeRoy and Sally Jo Headlee, who were making it possible to keep reefs in our homes long before they became mainstream. These are the folks that taught us about artificial reefs, reef cleaners, fragging, and nutrient export. They fired our imaginations with their colorful and packed tanks and taught us that it was possible when conventional wisdom said it wasn't. Though their technology is out of date now, we cannot argue with their success or how they propelled the hobby forward.
