I realize everyone has their opinion on which heater they like best, but in searching here I don't see a poll,... on brands. I really don't know enough about heaters to make my own poll thread. There seems to be a lot of "name brands" to choose from, so for me to rank the top say, 10, is difficult.

I would appreciate if someone else would create such a poll for me/us.
Longevity being the main purpose.

Thanks,
Kevin

I think you will find eheim jager the most highly recommended.

Still, should always use even the most reputable heater on a secondary thermostat.

I agree. Mine are controlled by an apex that turns the heater off and on using a seperate temp controller. If the heater was to malfunction the apex controller will kill the power to it and alert me by text. Always nice to have a spare as backup too.

If I hadn't went with an apex I would use a ranco controller. It seems to be the gold standard.

What are the differences between their models ?

only heaters I have used and been satisfied with are finnex titanium and cobalt Neo-therm lineup.
I run both of these with a reefkeeper controller as controller/backup

I use a mix of finnex titanium and eheim jager. Former make higher wattage units so more useful on a big tank. Have owned lots of EJ units over the years, with very low incidence of failure - though I do replace them proactively. EJ do need to be 'calibrated' though (simple adjustment of the reader ring).

Finnex, the only heater I have used that’s never failed.

Wish i had the same experience.

The initial one lasted for 4-5 years before I made a mistake of removing it from water while still plugged in.

The 2 I bought later..... each failed within 6 months.

Currently I used 2 Jager setup in apex as stages. The smaller unit goes on at certain temp and if it cannot keep up and the temp fall another .4 degree, the big one kicks in.

Has worked like a charm in past 3 years.
