I'm a softie guy, I just love soft coral. I don't really know why, but I've kept lps and sps and while I appreciate them, I really prefer soft coral.

I may be wrong, but I am unaware of a company who specializes only in soft coral, specifically aquacultured soft coral. It seems that whenever I go to purchase anything, I would have to buy from 3-4 different vendors who offer some of everything to find the handful of softies I'm looking for.

Do you think there is any demand for a vendor that specializes only in aquacultured soft coral? Specifically zoa/palys, mushrooms, leathers and possibly anemones.

Thanks!

ah shucks, nothing aquacultured there. let me think... I know someone does it..

I really like KP and have ordered from them multiple times, but like you said not aquacultured. They are a great source for gorgonians, but not a huge selection of "big name" zoas and no leathers :(

I run into the same problem. Following...

maybe I misunderstood the question. are you looking to buy? or looking to become an aquaculture-only soft coral vendor yourslef?

I'm always looking to buy :). But this was meant more of a general discussion more than anything else. It just came to mind after placing an order from LA and realizing how much they lack in the "named" zoa and mushroom department.

I see. well, I don't know of any strictly aquacultured soft coral vendors... but Cherry Corals has some beautiful tank raised zoas. AquaSD has some nice zoas, and other really nice soft corals such as clove polyps and ricordias that are also tank raised (I believe). I'm trying to stick with strictly aquaculutured livestock for my upcoming build, thing is I'm mostly interested in LPS and inverts other than corals like snails shrimp etc. so that's not much help. good luck to you though and I commend your effort/quest to find aquacultured softies!

bump for votes!

Alright, so if any of you have read my recent thread about aquaculture you know I am wanting to start an aquaculture business. Check out the thread for details. https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/aquaculture-dreams.401663/#post-4800222

That being said, I primarily want to focus on soft coral but am planning on growing other coral as well.

So here is the question for you softie lovers. What non soft coral (thinking mainly lps, sps and anemones) are you most likely to be interested in from a "soft coral" vendor? What corals and anemones would you be the most interested in purchasing together?

Thanks!

Soft corals have very different requirements (lighting specifically) than anemones. I would likely not combine the two. Concentrate on softies and maybe LPS to get the lower lighting crew.

Thanks for the input! I personally have had good luck mixing anemones and softies, especially RFA's. Also don't forget that while there are a lot of softies that like lower light, there are also quite a few that tolerate lower lighting but prefer and thrive in pretty intense lighting.

Yep, most leathers can be blasted with light and look amazing. I'm doing a leather/soft dominated tank right now and have a magnifica anemone.

I will say though, I'm sure there's a lot of people who only have softs/leathers because they don't have the right lighting/flow environment.

Been in contact with aquaculture and mariculture farmers Vietnam, Tonga, Fiji. All have limited list of softies and sometimes not available certain softies. You may specialized in softies as niche market, but diversify in other type corals. Just a thought.

They do carry some sps and lps, but they have a lot of softies.
There a middle man . So they have more choices, different regions/contacts. I'll give you an example. Vietnam M/L dendronephthya $3.50ea., ask them how much they offer them. You'll get an idea, where on the pecking order they are to pricing. Also if you can deal direct with regions you'll get healthier specimens. If you become a vendor betterreputation for you.
Just talking
