polups

I have green and orange polups in my reef tank. Over the last 2 weeks it seems that a white melted fungus or similar has eaten away the polups and seems that whats left stays on the rock.Temp is ok in tank.some are stil there no other area is effected..does anyone know??

if it look like they are sort of just melting away into a nasty white mess. then it could just be melt. unfortuantely, no one seems to know what causes it. i have had colonies melt away on me before in a matter of a day or two. some try to cure it up with peroxide dip but it doesnt always work.

If it is melt, which it sounds like, your only real hope is to cut out any affected patches well in front of the dying areas. I would also suggest dipping in a antibiotic (nitrofuranase, minocycline, etc) dip for 30-60 minutes each day, and just hope you can keep part of the colony and grow them back. Best bet is also to make a few different frags and put them in seperate areas in the hopes that one pulls through.

Also suggest you place the infected frags/colonies in a QT or something. I've also done Peroxide treatment. I've done this to a couple of frags that had some type of infection. I believe the dip is 10% peroxide and 90% tank water for a couple mins bath then rinse and place in QT.

You can also try the Furan2 treatment as it treats for both gram positive and gram negative.
