So about to bring life into my newly cycled saltwater aquariums. I think I got most filtration medias covered all that remains is picking the greatest way to control phosphates. I heard of GFO but am not down for a reactor in my tank. Got some chemi-pure elite for my 65g in a canister filter but I have a 13.5 g in need of preventive phosphate management. I read about poly filter pads but I got poly wool already. Is it going to be good enough to trap phosphate in? Thanks

Don’t freak out on phosphate control.
There is no “preemptive “ method.
It’s becuse Po4 builds up over time.
If you strip it now when there isn’t any , you can run into trouble.
Most commonly nowadays is Dino’s and Chrystophytese. Folks have to die po3 and no3 to rebuild the biofitler after is crashes from no Po4 and Dino’s take over.

Visit the giant dino thread.

Poly wool is just a lighter filter sock.
I prefer it over socks. There is nothing i it to bind phosphates or other ions like in poly pad.

Quite likely.
After the rock is wet for a few Days , test the Po4(for Naturally bound Po4 ) , then keep an eye monthly and go from there. If it looks like your building it up, then yea , you may need it.

Great then. I now have aquamaxx hob 1.5 skimmer, Bio Matrix, chemi-pure elite, poly wool and purigen in a fluval 406 canister for my 65g along with 65 pounds of dry rock and 1.5-2 inches of live sand. Theorically it should go well with patience. My 13.5 evoXII makes me worry more as I am not willing to get a skimmer in it since it’s in my bedroom. Your help will be greatly appreciated :)
