I have noticed that the polyfiber used in stuffing pillows and stuffed animal are of almost the same man-made material used in the polyfiber used for the aquarium. The material is non-toxic to both humans and animals. Is this true, and can the polyfiber be used for a filtration system? The reason I ask is simply because I saw this material at the local fabric store.

Thanks in advance for the info you all will share with me.

I buy batting for quilts from fabric stores!! JoAnnes has slammin deals too!!

There are many different densities and weaves so just make sure its 100% polyester fibers that have not been impregnated with bonding agents!!

They will all cause excess foaming in your skimmer, however!

You got it!! Glad I could help! And seriously check online for coupons...this stuff can get cheappppp. -I got that "bolt" for .99 a yard!!

I also make carbon/phosphate and other media bags with a form different than what I just posted...maybe I'll do a quick video of that!!

I buy mine from Wal-Mart. I cut it to size, fold it up so it's nice and thick and place it in my sump drain section. After 4-5 days I'll take it out and swap it for a new batch. But Im able to waste the old stuff out and then throw it in the dryier for 10-20 minutes.

Not sure but once it's double/tripled up it's thick and stops just about everything going through it. After 4-5 days they need to be swapped. You can see the water building up on top of it vs going through it. It's all I'll use now and it's CHEAP!!!
