I was wondering if PolyGuard was worth having in my fish medicine cabinet or not? I searched the forums and didn’t see any positive or negative posts.

What drew my attention to PolyGuard is it appears to be good for multiple ills and since I’m new, I thought it would be a good “cure-all” if in doubt.

Thanks in advance.

Seachem's Polyguard is a "freshwater" use product. I like it a lot and use it in my freshwater planted tanks when necessary. Turns silicone and some equipment blue though. ;)

I think there may be some confusion here. Seachem sells PolyGuard and Paraguard. Polyguard is a broad spectrum antibiotic. Paraguard is sold as a parasite contol medication. It contains malachite green and Glutaraldehyde (similar to Formaldehyde) For Marine ich neither Paraguard nor formaldehyde (ICH-X) have found much success in this forum. The overwhelming consensus for treatment of marine ich is copper with a good test kit (Hanna) Not sure if Paraguard or Ich-X have better success in freshwater tanks. As for Polyguard, I have not seen much use in this forum either. Mainly Metro, Kana, Furan 2, etc....
