A friend of mine (he’s here on R2R too) is on a month-long diving trip. He sent me loads of pics and video of his trip and I’m more than wowed. He sent me a video of some acros with crazy hairy extension. I’ve read comments where people said PE is not good. But if it happens in the wild, in Indonesia, how can it be bad?

Also, he sent a video of some crazy movement of torches. They were being blasted by the current. It really made me rethink how much flow is too much.

It seems the videos didn’t upload properly. They are .mov format. May have to reformat

I noticed I can’t view any video now on r2r. Is this a widespread problem? Or just me? Using iPhone. Tried multiple browsers and app. Nothing.

The videos are playing fine for me too. What's this about the polyp extension? I've got a pink lemonade with some pretty crazy extension. Could it be a problem?

They haven’t played for me since the update. I mentioned it to @revhtree a week or so ago.

Weird. iPhone and r2r are not very compatible it seems. Videos worked for me in the beginning. But not now.

Some people say *think* that polyp extension means the corals are not getting enough food so they extend to eat. I have to say I don’t agree with this.

Some people also say polyp extension is a tell tale sign of the coral being happy. When polyps are out the “muscle” holding the polyp in the coral is in a relaxed state. When it’s sucked in the coral is actually doing work, both are contraction muscles similar to the human bicep is my understanding of it.

When my SPS polyps start hiding, I know they’re going to bail. So I do agree with you.

In a way I can agree with this, I aways felt extreme extension was from them trying to get more light. Just what I've noticed over the years. Turn lights up, everything shrinks, turn lights down everything stretches.

But, when I added ozone, everything extended to the freakish point, so that made me rethink my original thinking.

Also video linkies no work for me. So I have absolutely no idea what everyone is talking about.

I’m not sure where I stand on it. Some of my acros have great pe but little growth, then some inches away have zero pe but good growth.

In an aquarium, we don’t even try to mimic the ocean. We throw things in, chase parameters and chemical away at our tanks. What we’re doing is truly not natural. Lighting, flow, feeding, etc. So I guess in the end, we can’t try to say what we see in our tanks is natural. If you have growth, nuff said. That’s a win. Coloration: win. Not dying: win. :)

I’ve always looked at my corals as flower following the sun, especially the LPS, I can see them all puffed up pointing to the lights. I wouldn’t be surprised if our lights moved around like the sun we would see this corals moving they’re body angle during the day following the sun like the sunflower does. If they closing due to light increases could be that you giving them too much PAR

I agree with this 100%. Polyps are like plants in that they chase the light. That is how corals grow, right? They angle themselves towards the light just like plants.
