Is it normal for a coral to mainly extend it's polyps when the lights are off? When my lights are on I barely get any from it. The identification of it has also been up for debate

I'll try to get some nowPics would help.

It's only been in a couple daysAppears to be a Cyphastrea. Polyps should be extending while lights are on, unless it’s fairly new to your tank or params/lighting are off.
Any tips for placement?Ah, OK. Give it some time to acclimate. They like moderate lighting and flow.
Start low in tank til it acclimates then move it to about midway. When polyps are extended ensure they are moving with the flow, not violently but gently blowing in the breeze.Any tips for placement?
