polyp extension ?

i have a blue torte that i havent seen any polyp extension. i have had it for a week and still havent noticed any extension. any thoughts?
my green birdsnest and pocilopora (sp) both have excellent polyp extension.

Are there any fish nipping at the tort? Have you checked it at night? Alot of SPS have the best polyp extension at night.

I have been dosing magnessium weekly and it has made a world of difference. I have some with half inch extension.....Just my experience.

my mag is already around 1500.
no i havent checked it at night, i will do that this evening.

Def watch at night, it'll let you know too if its a light acclimation issue as well. I've noticed a lot are night only with me, I've done some research and have heard it called a defense mechanism as they are less likely to get nipped at night. Could just be the corals "personnality" too Let us know what the night shows!

In nature SPS polyps only extend at night for the most part. They have to retract during the day to protect themselves from coralivores like butterflies and such. Even then they aren't totally safe...

Is the angel in your avatar in your reef with these SPS? Sometimes they'll make a pass by it and just barely nip (easy for us to miss) causing the whole colony to retract its polyps.

Do you have any other acros? FWIW, none of my torts have outlandish PE, and many times you can barely see them during the day. Now my millis on the other hand look like they're stretching out to grab something all day long.

no the angel fish i took out of the tank. she started attacking my new firefish .

no this is my first acro. so dont know too much about them really.

i would say its med-high flow. flow is from the main flow jet which is a mag12. about 6 inches from top of water. under t5 lighting.
all water parameters are in check.

mated pair bangaii cardinals, pair mandarins, midas blenny (which he doesnt seem to bother anything, hes too busy going in and out of his holes ), a rusty clown goby, and pair of purple firefish.

Couple thoughts....

Clown Gobies will eat the flesh off acropora to lay eggs... you might want to remove him. As far as blennies i'd try and stick with a tail spot or a mimic.

well yes i knew that the clown goby would eat the flesh around the bottom to make a nest if its a pair to lay eggs. i only have one and all i ever see him doing is laying on the same rock but not actually touching it.
the midas blenny will have to stay, it was a gift from my boyfriend.
