Polyp extension?

Agreed I am also... I would take his advice before my own haha... I mean each acro has it's own way of doing things I have a couple millies with no pe but they grow like weeds they have to be happy and I have some with super pe and they don't budge.. it's really hard to say IMHO it's almost Like a bubble tip with no bubbles it's just one of those things... I think Anthony broke it down quiet well and provided some sound knowledge hope it helps the next guy just as much..;)

So what exactly are you getting at I'm really confused???? What's tour thoughts on how and why??? Every coral feeds at night that's when they grow and release c02... Like a plant but these are animals not plants..

you are right but, almost all coral use and trap algae to grow and create sugars for energy and growth. so in a sense they are part tree (plant) and part animal. without the algae in their tissues they will die so, they need the algae and light to survive. the reason why they come out at night is to catch zooplankton and other particles in the water to eat but most of the energy is from the photosynthetic proses.

here are my 2 cents....I have a red tabling frag I picked up from Tyree a few months ago...up until about 3-4 days ago..super PE....then PE diminished. thought maybe AEFW, but I dipped and nothing (WHEW!!) So, upon closer examination, it appears to have gone on a growth spurt...it has a couple of new branches/tips forming, and the PE has diminished, though not completely. while handling the frag, a broke off a real small piece of the tip and glued it to a plug and dropped it in my frag tank (same system only difference is lighting my main system has 400W Radiums and T-5s, my frag tank only T-5s).

Now, the mother colony, which I believe is in some form of "grow spurt" has diminished PE. but the small tip I glued, has incredible PE..

could it be that the PE has gone down because the mother colony is using its food energy to grow? could it be that the PE is real more pronounced when it is trying to capture and store "food", but then when the energy is directed to something like say growth, PE diminishes?

Man, I have a red planet w/ great PE and is growing like a weed. There just doesn't seem to be any comparison or precedent. I have no idea! I guess I'll give it some time and then try another millie. What choice do I have, I gotta have millies(:
