Hi All - I have had this colony for about 8 months and recently it does not appear to be 100% open. I don't think it's xenia, maybe cespitularia? Any idea of what is keeping it from opening more fully? I have another colony of the same on the other side of the tank doing much better.

If the other colony is doing well I would think placement. Move the piece and see if that helps.

Before you move that coral, have you dipped it? There are nudibranch that prey on Xenia specifically and they can mimic the polyps so well you often cannot see them until there isn't anything left or without a magnifying glass and luck.

I assume you did dip the coral before adding. I would think like the other member posted and move it. If you have another that is doing well move it next to it for a little and see if it responds then you know it likes those conditions best.

No dip. I bought from a very reputable coral farm in Ohio. They have been in my tank for about 8 months. I will consider moving it next to the other colony. I'm not worried, just curious. Thanks Everyone for their input!

Okay I am not trying to tell you anything but I have bought from very reputable dealers and they have pests from time to time. Dipping is so easy to save so many headaches.
