new to reefing, wondering if I should start doesing. I have a mixed reef tank of softies and lps.

I saw something on polylabs one and it looked like an easy way to start doesing... ie no chemist degree needed

Testing just isn't that hard. And neither is dosing.

Have you been doing any testing?
What parameters?

To know if you need to dose, you need to be testing alk and Ca.

Yes I do, and so far everything seems to be good. 450 and around 9 . Do weekly water changes

If you are at 450 for Ca and 9.0 for alk, and your weekly water changes keep your levels up near those levels, you have no need to dose.

Now I don't do many water changes and my Ca goes from 425 to 400 in a week and more importantly, my alk goes from 9.5 to 7.0 in a week. So without water changes to bring them back up, I dose manually every week. And the alk change is going to get me dosing twice a week as the drop and rise of 2.5 dKH a week is more than I'd like. Although most of my corals are zoas and more tolerant than sps or lps.
