So today I got a nice sized frag of forest fire monti. Question is how long until it's polyps open and how do I acclimate it to the light properly

It depends on how long the frag was in transit for and how different your and vendor's setups are.

For example, I got a FF Digi frag from a local reefer who has quite a different parameter from me (i.e. Alk 6dKH vs 12dKH). It went through 30 min drive + 2 hour remount/dipping/acclimation but only minor temp swing. Polyps extended within the day.

As with acclimating, you want to go from sandbed to higher in scape to minimize shock. As corals will survive for a while if given lower than ideal light but can die quickly if given too much. I find acclimatimg is more important if they have been shipped and kept in dark for prolonged period of time.

My parameters are similar with the only difference being salinity. I know this about polyps but I noticed this and don't want to make a new post. It was like this when purchased. When I bought it I realized this and thought nothing of it

From the look of it, it seems like a branch broke off that side. If it is receding tissue, it would be hard to treat it besides fraggint unaffected area. You'll have to watch to see if that spreads or not.

But I'd just keep an eye on it and leave it be. Fixing things around will only make things worse.

Acclimation and tank parameters will play a role. Salinity , moderate light and flow and low nitrate will be helpful at the start until its fully acclimated
