Most lifespans of any marine specimen will be determined by type of environment, diet, water conditions and health of specimen itself.
Cleaner wrasses are known to live a year or 2. Mine approaching 8 years old. Never easy to predict

I've had mine for close to 3 years now (2 years, 8 months, 20 days to be precise).
I’ve got two, probably see them once a month. More like every 3 months, but I love Pom Pom Crabs!

Same here! There was period of 3-4 months where I didn't see him at all and wasn't sure he was still alive, but then he showed up again. My tank isn't that big so he must have a really good hiding spot.

I've had one for about 3 years in an old tank. The one I have now has been in there for over a year.

Do they all lose thier pompom Nem's eventually? Both of mine did at some point or another

I think it varies. Mine lost one of his pom poms pretty early on, but he's kept the other. I'm assuming they lose them during some sort of confrontation with another tank inhabitant, but I'm not entirely sure.

Thanks for all the responses! If I keep mine in a 3 gallon, how often am I likely to see him?

I think I read they have to drop them to molt so it's possible for them to lose one/both then.

I think determining how long an invert will live is tough because most of us don't know how old they are when we get them but I am glad to read how long members have had theirs. I really don't want to lose mine anytime soon. Love these guys! So tiny but with big personalities! :-)

In a 3 gallon, I would guess you will see him quite frequently as there is less real estate for him to hide in. It also depends on other tank inhabitants. If he doesn't have any reason to hide, he's more likely to be out and about. Mine tends to only come out after lights out to avoid the other tank inhabitants.

Ok, I spotted mine again today after lights out. Low and behold he was clutching a baby aptasia. How cool. Anyone else ever seen that?

My Pom Pom crab is approaching 4 years 7 months with me now. He carried both anemones for 3 years 10 months but sadly he lost one and then 3 months later he lost the second. He now carries around a single Aiptasia. :)
Wow! Pretty remarkable. What size tank has it lived most of its life in?
