Morning All! So I finally broke down and got a couple pom pom crabs! yay! I have always adored them from afar. In reading about them I see their max size seems to be 1 inch. My question is, if anybody knows, is that 1 inch from leg tip to leg tip,? Or is it the center carapace? Just curious.

Also, does anyone know if they will use a zoa if they lose their pom poms?

I'll be no help with your questions, but I would love to see pictures when they arrive! Those little guys are adorable.
I already put them in my tank last night :smirking-face: BUt I will try to get a pic for you. Yes they are way too cute! But very tiny.

I had a pom pom crab for two years. I would say he got to an inch and a half from claw to claw. Had to give him away to a friend to move and he eventually used aptasia in their tank on his claws

Thanks for the input. Mine are both very tiny at the moment. Their shell is only about 3/8", so I am just trying to see if they will get much bigger. I know they are small, but I hope a bit bigger than currently.

I don't think an inch is a good estimate. An inch on the carapace is much larger than I've seen, and mine stands a little more than an inch without stretching its legs out. I think probably 1.5-1.75" for the size of the whole thing is a likely upper limit.

They're quite noticeably smaller than emeralds and porcelain crabs when fully grown.

This is the answer I was looking for! THank you.

Let's see the little guys!!
I will try when I get home from work to get a pic, but sadly, they disappeared right away. From what I understand, they tend to come out at night. SO I will do my best to get some pics. They really are just as cute as they can be though.

So it took awhile, but I finally saw one of my Pom Pom crabs in the tank. This is not the best pic but it’s the only one I can get. This is actually the first time I have seen one since putting them in the tank. They are so tiny, and only come out at night.
