I've had this Pom Pom for about a week. The first three days it did fine and then it closed and stayed closed. Is it dying or has it died completely?

I can still see tussle there a chance you can save it. What are your tank parameters? This can help assist in t cause of the issue. Also listing lights and schedule will be beneficial. Your tank looks fairly new have you completed cycle of tank before introducing live stock?

In addition to kingjames_dc5's post I am curious about the water flow they are getting, they look to be getting pushed towards the right in the picture.

Currently,
Temp is 78F
Salinity is 1.024
Ammonia is 2
Nitrite is 2
Nitrate is at 0.

The light schedule runs about 14hours on, 10 off. That's probably longer than I should be.
I'll admit I didn't let the tank cycle fully before adding livestock, so if they are dying, that is most likely why. Can I save them or is this a lesson learned moment?

It has NOT died completely....agree with others lower flow on it for now.

Xenia will thrive on some nitrates , you have none. Yet do Nitrites, ya its early... Turn down the flow on it, and feed the tank slightly more....

The water flow is medium to high. I had them at a low flow until they closed up and thought maybe a higher flow would help, I've seen alot of different opinions when it comes to the flow on pom poms when I've done some research.

Medium to low flow but not zero flow. It allows xenia to expel and ingest. See mine....yes overrun.....
And get the Nitrate up....but it's early with Nitrites present as mentioned.

Not letting your tank completely cycle before adding live stock is a very big reason it’s closing up and not happy. High ammonia and no nutrients in the water such as po4 and no3 will cause it to starve if your not spot feeding it. Your light schedule it kinda intense I only run my lights for 12 on 12 off. Is and the addition of not nutrients in the water plus by the looks of it being in a high flow area could be stressing it. Are you testing po4?

I'm jealous of you Xenia. They're pretty.

I did get ahead of myself by not letting the tank fully cycle, I knew it would end up paying for it. I have not tested for PO4. Is there anything I can add while the tank will cycling that will help the Xenia but not disrupt the cycle?

Get some bottled bacteria from the LFS and you have all the bacteria you will need. May want a larger variety to develop over time, but you basically get an instantly cycled tank.

keep parameters stable, whatever they are.... it should be fine.

However, i had a tank in the 2000's and for ten years i could grow everything from acros to softies and LPS.... Xenia always melted.... If u search threads, even on reef central, i was not the only one with such issue....

It's a great coral but can be persnickety. Definitely indicator coral for rapid changes in the tank.
