A question to fish taxonomists out there. Casual observation of my new Pomacentrus vaiuli, (Ocellated damselfish) lends to remarkable similarities to Centropyge (dwarf angelfish) fish I have owned. Body structure, habitat preference and feeding seem more dwarf angelfish-like than damselfish.
Can someone point out to me the taxonomic differences?
It is a very beautiful fish and I am a little worried about it's potential aggressiveness with tankmates. I do mainly keep damselfish and chromis.

Pomacentrus vaiuli is most certainly a damsel. Angelfish have a spine on the gill cover and differently shaped dorsal and anal fins.

As far as a aggression, it is a damsel. Not as aggressive as Dascyllus damsels, more aggressive than Chrysiptera damsels.

Thank you, I'll check mine out for comparison sake. But you know they don't act like a typical damselfish. Sure, they're aggressive about territory but behaviors are centropyge-like
