I took it apart to see if it needed cleaning, and everything looked in good condition, the glass sleeve was very little haze but cleaned it up with paper towel. There is a stainless still on the inside. This is what I got from the web site-** Stainless Steel Reflective Inner Sleeve in the Body - Increases UV Exposure and Prevents Internal UV Degradation. I called the company and they couldn’t give me a answer to use for reef tankI have not tried it but I did find this older thread that asked the same question... that response was a yes but not the same exact UV. I think the science is the same but maybe the concern would be from unit to unit in terms of the corrosion from salt water. How is it built, are there any metal parts, how is it sealed, etc... Also worth inspecting if it is used ... has the PVC deteriorated due to UV exposure? Is there a protective sleeve that needs replacing, etc.

5 watt prob wont help much, for that size tank you prob want 15-25watt minimum. I think jebao has cheap pond ones that people use on reef tanks, or if you want something more heavy duty/pricy you can go with aqua uv
