So I got this Zoa a little while ago and I remembered I took a photo of this when I caught it. This happened the second day in the tank and I haven’t caught it happen since then. Coral is thriving and has started growing a few more heads since I put it in. In this picture is it expelling zooxanthellae or pooping?

Are you saying that they are the same thing? I thought I read that corals can release wastes so I was confused what this was
I was wrong, expelling zooxanthellae seems to happen when a corals bleaching, but yeah unless its losing color, it's just pooping

Could be expelling excess zooxanthellae they regulate the populations within themselves and can release excess zooxanthellae even when healthy. Or it could be just pooping.
