Poor man's sea sweep

No personal experience but my guess is one more thing to break down. I remember having sea swirls that kinda worked on same principle and their gear uses to break down after few months and would not oscillate.

I agree with it being something else to break, but I do think they can be advantageous on big systems. schnitzel reef uses the brand name sea sweeps with Tunze's in them. His colonies are big, so he needs all the help getting flow in and around them.
 
That’s an interesting design. I have not seen that one before. I’ve used both SeaSwirls and SeaSweeps in the past but went back to plain old Tunze PH. I think if you start with the device and mold your coral placement around it I think you will be fine. I added a sea sweep after my corals were good size and found that the device blasted corals too much at the end cycle before it switched directions and the corals closed up. I didn’t want to change my coral placement so I removed the sweep. I think in the right situation it could be beneficial.
