HI guys, for last couple of weeks i noticed strange spots on my clowns, in 2 different tanks. It was a single pink spot on white bar, i used formaline and week later copper. Spot helaed but from time to time my female has popeye and today i noticed same thing in my other tank, on male clown. I think it is bacterial thing. I was able to buy erythromycin but i have no idea how to dose it.. Can you please help me. Thank you in advance.

Erythromycin is sold in the US as Maracyn I. However, although it is commonly used for eye infections in people, it is mainly active against gram positive bacteria and Cyanobacteria, and most marine fish infections are caused by gram negative bacteria. I've also had issues with erythromycin impacting the beneficial nitrifying bacteria in a tank.

Is the popeye you are seeing combined with cloudiness to the eye, or is the eye cornea clear? If the latter, it may not be bacterial at all...could be supersaturation or mechanical trauma.

Off the cuff, I would consider using two antibiotics - Kanaplex and Furan-2, in a treatment tank.

Can you post a picture of the clown that has it now?

Jay

Thank you for reply.

The thing is.. i cant buy kanaplex in europe, neither furan-2.

Eyes are clear, without any cloudiness. One of these fishes was treated with formalin and copper, nothing changed.
