so im working on a plan for a large fowlr tank and my girl has always wanted a porc puffer. ive done research on them over the years but never dove too deep into them. some websites say 180 minimum, some say 100 minimum. the fish gets to 12 inches so I couldn't see putting them in anything smaller than a 150 cube just so they have enough room to move. what would you say the IDEAL tank size would be? not the minimum. live stock will be pretty simple, the porc puffer, a couple yellow tangs, and some non reef safe wrasse

The bigger the tank, the better for a full grown porcupine puffer. They are an intelligent, and curious fish that will use all the space available. A 150 is adequate, but bigger is better.

that's what I was thinking. may have to jump past the 200 gallon mark. be better for the puffer and be able to add some other fish that she wants without worrying about there not being enough room for them all to swim.

well, ive had puffers. filtration is easy. its all easy. I was just looking for opinions on what a good size tank would be. like it was stated above, 150 will do it, but bigger is better so I think my goal will be to find about a 220-240 gallon.

I had one in a 150 tall and did very well. As A matter of fact, my avatar is my old puffer, Puffy. Pretty original huh…LOL. They are really smart fish and will provide many years of interaction for you and your family. Good luck!

ive had blue spotted puffers in the past and loved them. until they started munching on my coral... but that's why this will be a big fowlr. lol. ive always liked porcs. just never had a setup big enough for them. and im not the type of person who buys a fish, waits until its too big and trades it in for a smaller one. my lfs suggested doing that. no way.
