No. When I do a water change. Like I did tonight. I add about 8 drops to each 5 gallon jug I have. That's what I tested and that's .5 Cu. I do the same amount to all the 5 gallon jugs I add.

I'm probably going to get a 10-20 gallon cheap topFin setup for petco. Once my 180 gallon tank cycles I'll use that water to put into the empty QT tank and move Gizmo my puffer there and treat. Or should I move my 2 clowns to the QT to observe as they haven't shown signs of ich. Therefore I wouldn't have to add copper to my 10 gallon QT for future Quarantine/observation of new fish. Then continue to treat Gizmo as is. And I need to bucket him to remove all the substrate as he's a stone cold killer and will bite my hand. Any ideas or better opinions on this would be greatly appreciated. But I will always QT from now on. Ugh

@Benny Gyger It would be best to treat all your fish, so you can have a nice clean slate in the 180. Even fish which do not show symptoms can be carriers of parasites, and these provide a reservoir for future outbreaks from other fish.

I have a 10 gallon QT with cycled water empty. Was gonna use it for a new niger trigger that eventually will go in the 180. But I'm debating on holding off on the trigger and using the QT to treat my puffer. Or QT the clowns to make sure haven't caught ich to go into my 180

OK I'm trying to wrap my mind around your exact situation.

You have a puffer and some clownfish infected with ich? Any others?

You have a 180 gal, that is currently empty & cycling? And that is the tank all your fish will ultimately go into? Right?

This is what I would do then:

1. Take all the rock out.
2. Leave the sand in and just ditch it after this is done.
3. Treat the 60 gallon with Coppersafe for 30 days. Buy an API copper test kit to measure your copper level. It will fluctuate some at first (because of the sand) but eventually will stabilize.

Your biggest challenge will be keeping ammonia down with no LR for biological filtration. Do you have a HOB or canister filter you could use? Otherwise, you will need to do regular water changes for ammonia control.

Ok. I took all the LR out yesterday. I have a Fluval 306 canister filter in my 60. Do I need to try removing the cupramine with carbon or water changes before trying coppersafe? I appreciate all the help!

Yes, get the Cupramine down to undetectable levels before dosing Coppersafe. Coppersafe is easier to maintain under fluctuating conditions due to it's wider therapeutic range.

I thought about that, but how big is Gizmo (worried about ammonia)?

If anything, perhaps the clowns need to be treated in the 10 gal (for their own safety) while Gizmo has the 60 gallon all to himself.
