So my porcuppine lives in a 750L tank, with just 2x Small Clowns, and 1x Small Regal Tang. (3 month old tank) All water levels ok.

For past week, he hasn't been active unless a feed. Today he didn't respond to two feeds. So i have tried to move him to inspect him for signs of damage. As he was showing no signs of damage, but i never could see his stomach as he sits on ocean bed all the time. I Just nudged him and he puffed up, his body didn't puff up but a giant ball of clear skin like a blown up condom 3x the size of him i could see his insides and all his guts. I didn't take photos as i was in a panic and didn't think, but after he deflated i can now see his stomach is completely split. Can i have advice asap please as i think its best to put him out of his misery and whats the best way to do this?

I have a friendly tank theres no fighting and if anyone is the alpha it would be the porcupine as he is tripple the size of everything else im really confused how he is split open. Please give me advice asap. Thanks.

I had this happen at the LFS, his air bladder was hanging out. We euthanized him.

I would pull him out and put him in a quiet dark tank with melafix or other anti bacterial.

If he does not start eating I would think about putting him down.

Sorry.

And to answer your question about suffering.

Clove oil is a recognized human way to kill a fish. Put fish in a bucket with a gallon of water in it. Mix about 10 drops of clove oil with some water and then pour in the bucket.

The fish will go to sleep, and then die.

That is so good to know. Thanks.

Sorry to hear that...I wonder if he tangled with the tang for some reason? I can't think of any other easy to get a cut so straight and so big besides with a sharp blade!

No definitely not the tang its very quite, I have absolutely no idea im still scratching my head. I think when he blew up it ripped him in half. Thats the only theory i have. Very bizzare situation.
