Porcupine puffer tank mates

I'm looking to get a Porcupine puffer today after work and I read a very long article about them...I actually read two. But what I was wondering just to make sure would it be ok to have him in a tank with a Zebra Moray eel because I plan to get on within the next year or so. I also have a Niger Trigger, Desjardini Sailfin and a Powder Blue tang. I also have two clown that are in my 55 gallon tank and wanted to put them in the 180 with everyone else but wasn't sure if it would be ok with the Porcupine Puffer....I feel that with all of these more aggressive bigger fish that they might hide a lot. Any thoughts??

I doubt the clowns will make it. They sounds like tasty snacks. Idk about the moray though.

I recently added a toby and porcupine puffer, both roughly 3". Tankmates in my 150g are: 3ft zebra eel, large striped bristletooth, large bird wrasse, med. clown tang, med. foxface, med. bullethead goby, and small dwarf zebra. I have zero aggression from anyone. Puffers are always out in front. I think you're fine to add one. Highly doubt you'll have any trouble. I think you could add the clowns, too.

Well I hope that it all works out because I pick her up on Friday lol...she'll be in qt for a few weeks. The clowns are in an acclimation box in the 180gal now so hopefully I won't have any problems with them

as long as they are large enough that they don't fit into someone's mouth, clowns should be ok. Clowns can hold their own for the most part

We have one with a snowflake moray and a triggerfish , at first he was affraid of the triggerfish but after 2 days they eat and swim together , it's a very friendly fish

If you want to be 110% safe with the clowns (I wouldn't hesitate to put them in), get a bubbletip nem for them. You can either put the clowns and nem in the 55g, or add the nem to the acclimation box. The clowns may take to the nem immediately, after a week, or never at all. Just an option if you're worried about them.

Well one of the clowns died last night for a reason that I haven't figured out yet...I made another post about that topic. I might just trade the other one in at the LFS at this point or put him in my 20L qt tank

Hi. I'm debating getting a porcupine puffer and just curious how you moved him to your tank. did you net him or use a bucket? How did you not pour any store water he was in in your tank?

Hi @Benny Gyger . Figured I'd help even though I don't own a porc. I would be using a plastic strainer like people use for dumping pasta. Collander is the proper name. Carefully pour him from the acclimation container into the strainer then carefully move him to the tank. I do that with all fish, and have used it with success for everything from gobies to a lionfish.
