Poseidon's NEW Adventure! ;)

Awesome corals and FINALLY we get some new coral pics from you! WOOT!

Thanks you two!

New glass baffles are in place, now I just have to wait for it to dry... overnight. Top sump has the heater and temp probe in it, with a small powerhead to move water around. Tank has the korallia in it, and the temp in the house is 75, so no heater needed there. I have about 30 gallons of water made up at 1.025 heated and mixing to replace the water I took out this morning.

I'm going to add those corals I mentioned earlier, tomorrow from my friend James. Then next weekend is a local swap, hoping to avoid adding more then I should. ;)

I'm interested in seeing how that led will work out for you. Looks great so far. Good luck with the progress.

Thanks for the well wishes!

The glass replacement took longer then I expected, as I ordered a piece of glass 15 1/4" x 8" and recv'd a piece that was 15 1/16th x 8", so back to the glass shop. When I called them, I also ordered a piece for the first baffle, as long as I was doing it, I might as well do both the right way. I ordered a second piece that was 15.25x14, what I got was a piece that was 15.25x14 on one edge, and 15.25x14.5 on the other.... ARGH!!! Not worth the gas to drive back a 3rd time, it is about 25 minutes there, and with gas at $4/gallon and me driving a Jeep... each trip is about $10 in gas. The glass baffles were $5 and $3 respectively. :plane:

I have the system up and running again, first water change done. ;) I ended up removing about 28 gallons of water from the bottom sump at operating level. The new glass panels had 20 hours or so of dry time from the application, I just couldn't stand to let it sit still any longer. The Reef Crystals ran for closer to 24 hours as I like to do before a water change, but the mix was a bit cloudy once I put it into the sump. (My next water change I will let it run for longer, also the temp of the mix water was a bit higher then the tank.)

I also moved my heating element from the bottom sump to the top sump, and left the temp probe in the bottom sumps final chamber. I figured that making sure the water coming back to the tank was the desired temp was the most important.

Yesterday while the return pump was off, all the chromis were out of the rock work, swimming around, now that the return pump is back on, they are back in the rocks. I'll have to figure this one out, the added flow from the penductor return does make a significant change in the tank water flow, but why that makes the chromis hide, I am unsure. :mad2:

The tank is officially a REEF now, it has CORALS! Well, a few anyway. My friend James sent me home with 2 bird nest SPS, a green and a purple, plus a very nice Frogspawn, a frag of my old trumpet coral that goes way way back... and a Frag of Gobstoppers that I originally got from Jr a long time ago. All of the corals are very low, most are on the sand for now. James has T5 lights, a lot of them, so these are used to a fair amount of PAR, but I am going to be safe rather then sorry.

So far I an see the frogspawn is starting to open, the SPS is looking good all polyped out, and the trumpet is glowing green! The gobstoppers are still closed, but that is fairly normal I think. (THere are only 3 polyps, and I superglued them to a plug...)

I'll update with a few pictures tomorrow after work.

Here is a quick update:

Neon Green Trumpet, this is a descendent of my original frag that was purchased from the Trop a LONG LONG time ago, pretty cool!

Birdnest, Purple. I figure for the price (free) it was worth a shot.

Gobstopper Frag, these were taken off the back of a rock, with a REALLY long neck. I'm interested to see if that long neck stays.

Frogspawn, it has a very rich Green.

Full tank shot as of a few minutes ago. ;) :)

ANd... some YUCK:

This is growing on almost all the DRY rock in the tank, out of the pores. I was NOT expecting to see this from dry rock. Now to find a critter that has a taste for this stuff. Either that, or I'm off to the drug store for some MgSO4. (Epsom salt)

I was leaning towards that nasty word myself, why in the world would I get that crap from DRY rock?

I added a total of 3 rocks that were not dry, 2 in the sump, 1 in the tank. No Bryopsis on any of them, just the stuff that was dry. It's really weird. I have had good luck using Kent Tech M to get rid of this in the past, looks like I will go that route again.

Diatoms gone, new algae in...

oh the joy of a new tank. ;)

I'm sure you'll get back on track in a short few weeks. :)

Looking good. Too bad about the yucky stuff ;)
It really is weird that its on the dryrock.

Try a regimen of H202, and kent tech m, plus a foxface to rid your tank of the algae

I added a very small foxface the other day, he/she is MAYBE 3".

Looks like things are coming along nicely!

Thanks! I think so.

Thanks Marv, I sure hope so.

I thought so too.

I took all the rock out tonight, SCRUBBED it off with a plastic brush/tooth brush and some 50/50 salt/fresh water. My scaping looks like crap right now I think, I tried to open it up more, but I don't have long enough branch rock for what I want to do. The structure is wider now, but isn't right. I am thinking I may go with 2 separate structures with some openness in the middle? Not real sure.... I need an extra pair of reef hands!

I like open middles. Kind of like a canyon for the corals to grow into
