Poseidon's NEW Adventure! ;)

Ok, finally got the good camera out... no flash batteries. :(

Here are some updated pictures of the progress made with the sump:

"Main" sump. This is the bottom one, it holds the skimmer, heater, and recently (an hour ago) added filter sock and holder. In the filter sock is a bag of carbon I expect to run the carbon and sock for only a few days to clear up the particulates from the gravel.

A picture of the Reeflo pump, this thing is TINY. I still have a very minor leak on the output side, it is coming from the fitting attached to the pump, not the hose barb attached to the fitting. I'll have to fiddle with it a little more another day.

My "created" ATO. I used pieces parts from other ATO's I have had in the past, and made an "L" shaped piece for the upper float using the ovens "broil" setting. To heat the acrylic for the bend.

The "upper" sump. Not much in here at the moment, eventually this will be the refugium. I will move the T5 lights that are currently over the bottom sump up top and call it good.

Closer up of the skimmer/sock. The skimmer is on loan from a friend, I will eventually replace the loaner with one of my own. I really liked the Warner Marine K2, if I could find one of those... it would be GREAT!

A full sump shot! You can see both, and my two mixing cans. The top one is for Salt mix, and will be heated and circulated, the bottom is for fresh water for top off.

In this image you can see the crappy 2x4 I added from the floor to the joist above. The tricked worked, the tank doesn't wobble when I walk in front of it now, but man I HATE IT!

That's all I have for now... hopefully the tank is clear in the AM and I can add a bit more rock to get the cycle going in full swing.

Alright!! Looking good man!

Man how I wish we had basements in AZ, looking really good Mike.

OK... Here are a few of the GOOD PART! Man, it is HARD to get a good image of a tank without LIGHTS. LOL!

Here are few of the minor added details:

I found this while cleaning out some misc. PVC parts 5 gallon buckets, it is a 3/4" threaded penductor! Woo HOoo! I haven't used it since I moved to this house in 2007, it was in use for only a short time before, forgot I even had it. ;)

From the top, I bought a schedule 80 nipple and chopped it in half, glued the part without threads into my 3/4 slip bulkhead, and threaded on a schedule 80 45, then the penductor into the 45.... Here's the best part, I had the system on "standby" while working on the PVC parts, the water line was just below the bulkhead. I went downstairs to put the tools away, and look at the timer, 3 2 1.... SHRIEK!!!!! The pump kicks on and I hear my wife screaming! She was getting S P R A Y E D by the penductor!!! LOL I was laughing so hard, so was my son! Stacey however, not quite as funny to her. ;) ;) :)

Glass Holes overflow, works good, and I have set the vent tube just right to really quiet it down.

Turbulence on the surface, this is from the penductor and 1 Korallia 4, not bad!

The rock pile!

Full tank and stand shot! The white you see is styro, I need to figure out some trim to cover it up, and maybe the bottom plastic on the tank as well, if I had a router table, it would be a cinch to run some cedar 1x4 down it a few times, and presto! Maybe I can talk my Uncle into helping out.

That's all I have for today, I am going to be talking with Reefbreeders about his new fixture the Supernova... Decisions decisions!

Glad to see it filled...Ill be interested to see how you work with the branch for mounting corals. Cant wait to see it grown in.

Thanks! I am anxious to see what I do with it too! ;)

Looks awesome!!!!!

Thank you!

The way you have your system plumbed makes me super envious of having a basement.

:D They do come in really handy for certain things!

Looking good!

Thanks!

A small update, the tank is FINALLY cleared up, still not 100% clear like I want, but it is getting much better. The filter sock has started to really discolor and look "heavy". The penductor has moved around the sand a bit, which is a good thing I guess. I am thinking about making the output hole needs to get bigger to allow for more volume and maybe a bit less velocity.

I am starting to notice a small bit of algae on the rock work too, which means that life is starting to take a hold in there! WOOT!!!

Drilled out the penductor a bit...well to 1/2" LOL. No more spraying all the way across the room and onto the couch, it is SAFER this way, and I traded velocity for volume, which is a good trade in my book. I also pushed the sand back into the voids to see what happens next, and of course that made the tank cloud up again.

I've also been doing a fair bit of research on lights, man this is going to be a TOUGH decision.

I was able to trade a few pounds of dry rock for some fully cured seeded rock from a good friend, I also picked up a really nice piece of coralline covered rock from a most excellent LFS that is not too far from me. I also redid the rock scape, not sure if I like it or not...

Now the wait is on... If only I could make a final call on the light, wife likes one, I like another... I need the Wife Approval Factor.

Pictures as requested!

New Sump light... Home Depot version, lets see how it works.

Top sump mostly full of rock and a start to my chaeto.

1/4" Square clear mesh top in place.

A start to my coralline, a nice little piece of tonga branch from Preuss Pets in Lansing, MI. A MOST EXCELLENT Local Fish store.

New Aqua Scape, not sure I like it, is it packed to tight?

moved the old sump light from the basement up to the tank for the time being, until the final decision is made on an LED light.

So far so good! It is REALLY nice to see everything lit up, and water flowing!

So how does it feel man?

Bah, I say forget the led's and add to your existing T5's;)

Looking good, I like the scape!
