Hi everyone about 6 months ago I had a trachy that possibly got brown jelly but I’m not sure. It was when I just started my tank so there wasn’t much coral in it and I wasn’t as educated as I am now. I came home from work and saw it and immediately drove to my lfs for advice. There was only the newer girl there and she suggested an iodine dip which I did. First pic is with whatever it was still on it. Second pic is after I dipped. Now the coral has made a full recovery since this has happened and is doing very well. I’m just curious if I dodged a huge bullet or if this was something Else

Hard to tell exactly from the pictures but it does look like brown jelly.. do you have pictures of the recovered trachy? It would be good inspiration for others with similar issues.

Yep I’ll get a new picture tomorrow since he’s much bigger than the photos I currently have. But this is him 2 weeks after a dip in Kent iodine

And here he is about 2 months ago

nice! Personally I would have written that trachy off, great job saving it.

I once lost an entire tank of euphyllia to brown jelly, and what happened to your tarchy was not brown jelly(sorry just from what I saw in my tank years ago does not look one bit like your pic).

Nice recovery, but an iodine dip does not stop brown jelly, and why I think what you had was just some damaged tissue that the coral sloughed off, and why the iodine dip helped it.

Yeah that’s why I wasn’t sure. I’ve never dealt with brown jelly so I don’t know exactly what to look for. Was just kind of basing it off other posts that I have seen.

Brown jelly can be treated with iodine however antibiotics are better.. from the pictures you posted it appears to be traces of early BJD.. arrows pointing at what appears to me to be small globs of BJ

more advance stages of BJ for your reference ..

Your second pic is what I witnessed in my own tank. What the OP posted looks like damaged tissue that the coral is sloughing off.

From my extensive research a few years back, iodine will help, but will not cure BJD. It was my understanding that you can slow the progression down, but there is no known cure.

So here’s my full healed trachy. Sorry for the crowded pic lol. The anemone I’m selling to another local reefer and I’m redoing my frag tank so display is a little crowded and things are moved around

I know it's been awhile (wow 2019) but I have a trachy that's also showing signs of brown jelly disease. It showed the skeleton in a matter of days, I can still see the mouth and I am dipping in kent iodine trying to do something to save it.If by any chance you remember, did you dip just once? Any feeding or anything else special you did?
Thanks in advance.

Sorry for the late reply haven’t checked this in a while. I believe I dipped it twice. And let it sit for a while. I do feed my LPS corals little bits of fish food. And when it was puffed up and looking better I did feed it.
