Just picked up a rainbow wall hammer. I looked at all of the tissue around the base but did not see this until now. If it is brown jelly will it die for certain or does it have a chance. Several frags in the store had some tissue recession could it just be that I did see a little brown stuff that I blew off and sucked out

I rarely see wall hammers survive in captivity. But it looks like your skeleton is completely in tact and hasn’t been cut. Following along. Sounds weird but smell it. IME brown jelly has somewhat of a rancid smell. I typically do an iodine dip on all euphyllia before adding to tank. This helps to clear out an bacterial issues.

Cool beans thanks man. Yes has not been cut. I will give it a smell did not know that. Will do an iodine dip as well. Thanks again

Hello,

Scott is correct ( his name is not Scott though)

yours looks good, don’t see any skeleton, just receded most likely from the move. I actually rarely have seen BJD hit. It may look like this I pulled from online if it does.

It doesn't look like brown jelly...just looks like its pulled in/closed up ....give it a dip ...and put in low too medium flow....it should be fine in a day or two .....but from what I've read wall hammers dont do well in tanks ....not to say they cant do well ...but generally....if it is Brown jelly ..you will loose the whole piece iam afraid.

So no need to worry about this area just extreme receding

Sorry about the blues don’t want to disturb the coral. Pretty good extension for the first few hours of lights on. Everything looks good so far with the exception of the one spot retracted but polyps are there. I think I figured out what happened. Before I put it in the tank I noticed that right at that spot a piece of the skeleton has been broken off. I think it got hit during shipment and somewhat recovered at the store which I then made it mad by bringing it home and stressing that weak spot even more and now looks like it did with the first stress event. Hope that is it and it will heal. Amazing coral almost black/deep violet with gold/yellow/orange tips and a teal/green center

Do you think it will heal up?
It looks good ..its open which is always a good sign...
Will it heal ....I hope so .if it was stung .
Any brown stringy slime on it ... ?
As mentioned earlier they dont tend too do well in tanks ...so its always going to be 50/50 chance I think ....it looks like a big piece ..you never know how the change of tanks will affect it . .
It's a beautiful hammer ....I hope it does recover..!!

No brown stringy stuff. New to the hobby and researched quite extensively before I bought a tank so that was the first thing that came to mind but looked at the topic again and the brown stuff was not stringy was more on the dry side like detritus and coral slime hope that is what is was. Yea hope it does well I did read they are hard to keep and hard to frag but the color was amazing and could not pass up the great deal his wife just left for a mission trip and we both got blessed

Also picked up a orange hammer for 50 bucks
And I think there is a good size difference in parameters between our tanks I keep my alk at 10 to keep my ph at 8.3-8.4 and this orange hammer has flesh all the way down to the base and is slow to fluff up so hopefully just getting used to my tank

I don’t know bought a scrubber but ph would still read the below 8 color on the Red Sea card could be because my apartment is less than 600 square feet read somewhere the co2 would build up in a small area. Would like to figure it out would like to try my first piece of sps like a birds nest but know a all of ten is way to high for sps

10 is good for sps ...but I'd try a easier one .montipora plate something like that..or purple stylo...birds nests are like the canarys they used in the mines ...if theres a problem they usually go first ....
I love my seneye ..beter than test kits . Maybe you could look at that ...
