I just got a batch of snails and had to get them in quarantine this afternoon. I didn't get to finish the acclimation process and had to go to work and my wife had to finish for me. She found a crab mixed with the snails and decided to throw it in the refugium until I get home to deal with it as I don't want any crabs. What she didn't think about is she just threw a crab from the lfs straight into my main system. I'm freaking out now because I'm worried I may have ich floating around in my tank from the few hours it was in there before I realized what had happened. What is the best course if action at this point? I have spent a huge effort knocking out ich in the dt and now I think it's all ruined by a crab. I'm tempted to pull all my fish and fallow again just in case. What's the chances I'm screwed?

I hope you're right. I'm trying not to get upset with her because she didn't mean to. I told her to toss the crab out so it won't kill the snails in the qt and she didn't have the heart to so she put it in the refugium. Problem is, the refugium is in my main system. I was like, noooooo when I realized what had happened. It spent maybe 8 hrs in the bare bottom fuge before I yanked it out. It was a tiny cerith snail shell with a crab in it.

Thanks. You're making me feel better at least. On the bright side, Im sure she will be more careful with the quarantine process moving forward after this experience.

Dr. Reef's advice seems pretty sensible to me ... though there's a possibility that the crab brought something unpleasant, there's no guarantee it's now hunting through your system.

Keep your fish on careful observation for the next few weeks, but don't go fallow unless you have to.

Pretty sure that, as they say, "you got this".
