I bought a Christmas wrasse from a lfs.. Happy, fat, and active for a few months. One day, it seemed lethargic. The next morning I found it dead. No idea what happened, maybe it was just old? Ammonia nitrate and nitrite are zero, no issue with parasites, and all my other fish are happy and healthy. it wasn't getting bullied either.

Sometimes fish will get overstressed during a move and die, happened to me before with a perfectly healthy pearly jawfish when I to a new apartment. However, I would closely be watching for signs of disease over the next couple of weeks, just to make sure nothing bad was introduced to the tank.

Fish can suddenly drop dead for a multitude of reasons: Disease, injury (which is sometimes internal), environmental (ammonia or toxin in the water), and previous exposure to cyanide.....

It's also important to note that not all diseases show visible physical symptoms (e.g. white spots), and some also occur inside the gills or even inside the fish.
