Got advise locally just looking to get a few more ideas, thoughts, advice??

So i get home today, and my new baby kole tang (had for 3 days) LOST ITS TAIL?? :'(

Not sure how, i only have 2 clowns and they have been friends since first few seconds...
I feel so bad for him... I mean he is swimming around *trying to at least* it looks like he is having a hard time but is trying lol and he was even nipping at the glass...

I was inspecting him last night, noticed nothing with its tail. He had no visible damage, no brown marks, and no white spots. Just happened literally over night.

Everyone locally is saying to go ahead and put him down... looking to get a few more thoughts before i pull the trigger and do it tomorrow when i wake up..

Thanks
Tim

Why would you put him down? Fin rot is typically from poor water conditions/diet. I bet he is getting picked on. I had a clown that had ALL of his fins ate off and he recovered. I put it in a separate tank and added some prime to help with slime coat and fed variety of heathy foods. To put him down would make you a irresponsible pet owner. Fin rot is easy to deal with.

I know fin rot is not the end of the world, but it is very bad when it goes past the fin to the fishes body.. and it is there.
As far as water goes my water perimeters are fine and steady :
Salinity: 1.025
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 0-0.25
pH: 8.2
phosphates: 0.04sh??
Temp: 78

I would think if i was a irresponsible pet owner I wouldnt be asking for any advice or be concerned for what is happening.

What other tank mates does he have? Over night would not have rotted it away that quick. Clowns are notorious for being territorial.

Thats the same thing I was thinking.. No signs the night before but then next day gone?? Seemed way to fast but thats what everyone pointed the finger at.

Only other mates at this time are 2 true clowns. But since day one they was hanging out and swimming together. Never seen anyone nip at another or anything.

more info on kole tang:
roughly 1.5 inches (baby)
not eating any prepared foods yet.
although not eating prepared foods he is grazing the rock/ glass on a what looks like regular basis. His body does seem like he could be eating more but ive only had for 4 days now.

But other than this, he is showing no signs of stress or anything.

Until now, this happens and he stays behind rocks for the most part. Only comes out a few minutes a hour to graze then hides again.

i say blame the clown fish heck my clown fish kill her own mate

Add a cap or two of seachem prime and let him be. Once territories are established clowns will leave him alone.

I had a small kole tang same size as yours and I had issues with fins like that too. Mine ate when I soaked Mysis with kent garlic extract. and then the fins would grow back. but if I missed a day feeding with the garlic the fins would start to show signs of ripping up again. I gave mine away, i thought it just didn't like my tank and was stressed out about it.

I thought sechum prime was for dechlorinating tap water?

Am I wrong or does it serve other purposes??
It also helps restore natural slime coat. I use it every time fish get hurt, heals them right up. Just dial down your skimmer cause it may cause it to wet skim.

Do you run carbon? That can cause problems for some Tangs

OK so i woke up this morning and was going to keep a close eye on him today.
After a few hours i noticed I still hadnt seen him come out yet. After diggin in the tank for about 2 hours I finally found him, needless to say he was a goner already.

When I took him out i closely inspected him and im not 100% sure if it was fin rot or damage.. looked to be both kind of... Also his back part of his body was almost a black color... never seen that before.
