So I acquired my pair of butterflies like all of my others and they went into QT and I raised the copper over a 4 day period. They are housed with other fish as I am doing my mass qt before adding everyone back to the display.

I have dealt with MANY butterflies in the past and am familiar with many of the common problems (lympho, Red spot, and malnutrition. Also seen my fair share of Velvet and Ich. I noticed the bigger of the 2 butterflies came in with a white spot on its dorsal fin near the tail but appeared to be a lympho. So I left it be and just monitored. It ended up dropping off and going away but now I am sitting here observing and it appears to be “decaying” of the fins. Their is a small amount of aggressive behavior between him and the Singapore angel but mover any contact, just some very brief chasing.

After his initial 6 days of protesting food, he began to eat clams and now is a pig. Eats anything that touches the water. His diet is LRS, Fresh Clams, Nori, and Live White Worms. I do not believe diet is an issue.

It could be bacterial fin rot or flukes. My bet is on flukes. FW dip the fish in a dark bucket for 5 minutes and look for small sesame seed looking things coming off. That’s flukes.

Okay he is in the dip as we speak, so far so good, here is a clearer picture though

Dip came out clean. He is in copper currently, would it be okay to throw some kanaplex in as well?

If you were going to do it, it should be kanaplex, metroplex, and furan 2.

However, how long has the fish been in copper?

Thanks for the help Jason but just lost both of them. NH3 spiked in QT and lost the pair. If I hadn’t come back early I would have lost everyone. Good for future reference though.

Sorry for the losses buddy :(
We have all been there unfortunately...
