These are the fish that I'm considering for my new 80 gallon cube: a scopas or purple tang, a possum tang, 2-3 clowns and a green clown goby. Do these sound compatible with a Reef tank. Probably will get some LPS corals, hopefully a clam, some zoos.

I wouldn’t do any tangs just because of the dimensions. An 80g cube is probably about 24” all around, right?

It's 32 inches x 24 inches. Not enough swimming room, huh? How about a coral beauty?

To be honest you would be okay (in my opinion and experience) with a bristletooth tang or one of the zebrasomas you mentioned for probably 2 years. They are a little less active as they spend a good portion of their time picking at algae, but I think a dwarf angel like a coral beauty is a better pick.

Did you mean possum wrasse?

If you are considering having clowns, then you may be considering an anemone. If so the wait! An anemone does better in an aquarium where the water has already been cycled a long time ago, I would say atleast 4-5 months after. If you are willing to wait then a year.

No interest in an anemone, thanks though.

Also thinking about a pair of pearly jawfish. I know the tank needs a cover, does the typical eggcrate material available from hardware stores work?

Eggcrate is an insufficient cover. They can still fit through. Bulk Reef Supply has clear 1/4" mesh.

So if my lineup ends up being a coral beauty, possum wrasse, 2-3 clowns, green clown goby and a couple of pearly jawfish...in what order should they be introduced? Also..does that sound like an appropriate number and mixture for this tank? Really want to do this right!

Coral beauty and clowns last. The rest of the order doesn't matter.
