Possible Hydroids?

I D on this brown algae like growth would ba appreciated. It looks like brown dandelions with a single stalk and each one is the diameter of thread. It’s on a large rock with multiple acros encrusting on it or I would toss the piece.
Pieces retract into little balls like lint when removed or touched.

Yes that’s them all right. I think I saw somewhere that in addition to killing Bryopsis fluconazole had some effect on hydroids. Any idea?
