I got a purple firefish yesterday from a lfs and I currently don't have a qt set up. I dripped it and added it into the tank and it MAY have ice but it's hard to tell. It looks like it has a few spots on its head and one on its fin. Bad pics I know. The one it looms like on its body isa actually poop.

Keep an eye on it. If you start seeing spots on body/fins you will have to set up a QT.

There is not a reef safe treatment that will fully erradicate ich/velvet.

Keep us updated.

The tank is around 3 months old the only other inhabitant is a small oc. Clown. It's a fluval evo 13.5 gallon. I cant tell if it hasclamped fins because firefish seem to always have their fins close to their body. But I would say no from what I've seen. It's always in and on the rocks so I cant tell if its scratching

There are lots of information and theories about these diseases. Folks on this forum have way more experience than I do, and they know what they are talking about, but there is such a thing as perspective. I would say on a positive note that you don't have a huge mature system with lots of livestock at stake (but we all hate it when a fish dies). I, for one, am leaning to the school of thought that there is no such thing as an ich free system. It can come in on frozen food, frags, fish etc. Keep stress levels low. Doing too much may make things worse, but there are things you can do short of a QT. I don't want to make strong recommendations on things that "might" work, but if you do some more research you will find some things you can do to at least help the situation if it gets worse. I recently had a bout with something similar. Things are better for now. Time will tell, and, your mileage may vary...

Thanks for the info. I'll take everything in you just said

Definitely ich. I feel velvet would have killed by now? He has many more spots on his fins and face

I'm gonna go with cheap as possible. Air pump and air stone which I already have. Heater, sponge filter, plastic tote probably around 10 gallons

I’ve been going through this myself. I’ve been dosing with Hypercure twice a day and feeding with medicated food twice a day. I’m 13 days in and have gone through all the Hypercure, so I have to get more.

But I’m wondering if it’s ich at all. The spots do drop off for a while, but come back and none of the tankmates have gotten any spots. My firefish is flashing, but not showing signs of spots. My barnacle Blenny died, but I think because he was starving and not wAnting to eat the medicated food.

However, the spots don’t seem like lymph either. In any case, my Royal Gramma has survived. [emoji3] so far.

I think I'd rather be safe than sorry. I'll let them sit in qt for a week and check up on them

I didn’t mean don’t QT them. I don’t have a QT. I meant you could treat them in QT, sorry. Just trying to help. Haven’t had the best of luck on this forum. Not such friendly people. I’ll just stick to the live sales.

dont be sorry! I didn't mean to come off as aggressive

With the QT method, you have to treat them, and leave them in QT for 76 days. This gives the parasite in the main tank time to die for lack of a host. Buy some inexpensive unused pvc pipe joints to provide the fish n QT hiding places.

Yep that was exactly my plan :)
