I noticed water around the base of my 60g aquarium the other day and just thought my hob skimmer was overflowing. Cleaned everything up and thought nothing of it but a few days later it happened again but more water was around the base near the left side. Any ideas? Also I checked all the seems and the where dry.

If so how could I fix it
Replace the tank would be your best bet.
Silicone repairs, if not done correctly, wont hold up.
Meaning 100% tank breakdown and scrape clean the area.
Youll need something to transfer everything into so a new tank would be the easiest and least time consuming.

Do you think it would be a good idea to switch to acrylic?

It looks like it's water under the plastic, is that right? If so is there water on top of the plastic? If it's under the plastic it might be water that was there from the intial overflow and has just wicked out.

Could be condensation or leak. Place and tape paper towel at 3 different levels and see where it may be.
If its a leak, You can place tank contents into a rubbermaid tub or bin and repair the tank which should be fairly easy. I can guide you through the steps for leak repair

It's on top of the plastic which is why I'm worried. I Cleaned all the water from the skimmer and it hasn't overflowed since but the water is back and no other equipment is leaking

If youre positive, Lower water level 2" and dry well ands apply a thin bead of aquarium sealant (such as aqueon) - Not silicone. Allow to dry at least 24-36 hours and then restore water level.

id break the tank down immediately and fill it with the hose in the driveway. no way id keep possibly a ticking time bomb filled with water in my house

That is more serious. :( It doesn't sound like it's leaking a lot so one thing I would try before I tore it down is try to isolate the leak. I would clean the ater up a s much as possible and then every day for a couple days look very closely to see where the water first starts to show up. I'll use the video record on my cell to take video where I can't stick my head to see or it's too dark to see soemtimes.

For now I'm going to monitor the tank and if it happens again I'll tear it down and replace it.
